Hearty Portuguese Bean Soup: Submitted by: Elaine Fukui | Date Added: 3 Sep 2012

2 or 3 ham hocks
1 soup bone
1 Portuguese sausage, cut in 1/2" slices
1 large onion, chopped
1 can Small Red Beans, rinsed and drained
2 clove garlic, crushed
1 Tbsp. garlic salt
5 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
4 carrots, diced
4 potatoes, diced
1/4 head cabbage, chopped
salt & pepper to taste, if needed

Recommended Instructions

Put ham hocks and soup bone in large pot, cover with water. Add garlic, onion, garlic salt and Worcestershire sauce. Bring to boil and simmer (about 1 hour). Remove ham hocks and soup bone; cut them into cubes and return to pot. Add Portuguese sausage and beans and continue simmering for about 2 hours. Add carrots and potato and simmer for another 30-45 minutes. Add cabbage and simmer for another 15 minutes.
